Van Bich Thi Tran is the assistant director of the Vietnam program at the Social Science Research Council. She holds a Master’s of law in international and comparative law from Columbia University and a juris doctorate from the University of Iowa College of Law (USA). Before joining the Council in 2000, she practiced for several years as a staff attorney for the Legal Services Corporation of Iowa. She represented indigent clients with public benefits, health, employment, discrimination, domestic violence, and housing legal problems, and conducted community legal education programs. From 1997-99, Ms. Tran was the field coordinator for Volunteers in Asia in Vietnam and taught at the University of Hue and the Foreign Trade University in Hanoi. She is a member of the New York Bar.
