Eric Hershberg has been a program director at the Social Science Research Council since 1990, and is an adjunct professor at the School of International and Public Affairs at Columbia University, where he is also a senior research fellow at the Institute of Latin American Studies. He is also a member of numerous editorial boards. Previously, he was assistant professor of political science at Southern Illinois University, and he has also taught at New York University and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he received his Ph.D. in 1989. He has served as chair of the board of directors of the North American Congress on Latin America since 1999, and has served as a consultant to a variety of academic and activist institutions concerned with social science and international affairs. Hershberg was recently elected to serve as vice-president of the Latin American Studies Association for an 18 month term beginning May 1, 2006, and as president of the Association from November 1, 2007 through April 2009.
